BEL051 – SPORTS HALL
Extra Space for Athletes in Laarne!
The building is designed with two “faces”—one facing the town center and one facing the open green landscape—forming a Janus-like structure with two entrances that are internally connected. This allows the building to engage its surroundings and be accessible from both sides: Leeweg and Veldmeersstraat.
The elongated internal circulation connects all spaces, transforming a former “back” side into a functional front, enabling simultaneous activities and avoiding dead-end corridors.
Structurally, the hall uses a double steel truss supporting prefab TT-beams for the roof, which maximizes height efficiency. This creates a clear central zone for technical systems, ventilation, and acoustic curtains, while providing a minimum free height of 7 m in the sports area and 8.4 m at the edges. The design rhythm of “ribs” and “tables” integrates daylight and acoustic insulation, resulting in a clean, functional, and pleasant sports hall where attention focuses entirely on sport and experience.
