BEL015 – YOUTH CULTURE CENTRE “HET BOS”
The new programme consists of three major parts: music, theater and visual arts. Each part requires a specific space with its own character: a concert hall (200p), a theatre (80p) and a multipurpose room. The youth culture centre will have a new central entrance with a canopy. A gap, a “canyon” cuts through the building from the street to the garden. At its end an open staircase, footbridges, technical stuff and a hoist animate this vertical public space. All audience levels, including the new café, the “popular kitchen”, a duplex exhibition space and the three large halls are directly and visually interconnected through this main staircase. Because of the high acoustics norms, the concert hall is built according to the box-in-box principle. The theatre is located on the third floor and has a potato-shaped window overlooking the Willem Dock. The multipurpose room is situated in between: a bright space with large glass surfaces. Because of the low budget, the structural work will remain visible. No additional finishing touch!
