BEL047 – FIRESTATION
A New Fire Station for Leopoldsburg
The new Leopoldsburg fire station rises in a prime location at the heart of the town. To the east, it opens onto a wide green meadow dotted with scattered trees, while to the south two majestic, protected trees—a linden and an oak—have been carefully preserved as part of the site’s identity.
At the core of the design lies one clear ambition: to guarantee swift and safe response times while fostering a strong and efficient organization. The result is a building that is both highly functional and thoughtfully arranged:
A central vehicle hall with space for 16 fire engines connects directly to the training yard and internal access road, ensuring rapid deployment.
Changing rooms, storage areas, and workshops are wrapped compactly around the hall in an L-shaped configuration, strengthening operational connections.
Visual transparency across the building enhances collaboration, while short circulation routes keep distances to the vehicles to a minimum.
Offices on the north side overlook the entrance, combining security with an optimal indoor climate.
A strategically placed radio control room in the northwest corner commands panoramic views of all key activities inside and out.
Recreational spaces—including a gym and multipurpose room—are oriented eastward, enjoying calm and generous views of the former hospital lawns.
The architectural expression combines robustness with refinement:
A durable precast concrete structure ensures speed of construction, cost efficiency, and long-term resilience.
A copper-toned corrugated façade, finely detailed, blends harmoniously with the surrounding brick architecture.
Skylights and transparent gates flood the interiors with daylight, while bold colors in finishes and fittings add character and energy.
Sustainable technologies such as HVAC, rooftop solar panels, and rainwater recovery systems underscore the future-oriented approach.
By carefully balancing budget, design, and execution, the new fire station emerges as more than just a workplace—it is a powerful, welcoming, and sustainable home for Leopoldsburg’s firefighters.
